Urgent Care MD = Best Cash Prices in New Orleans

When it comes to health care, there is a lot of talk about how to pay for it.

Before you start fumbling for your deeply buried insurance cards, Urgent Care MD would like to make things nice and easy for you.

Whether you’re headed to our Lakeview or Mid-City location, UCMD offers the best urgent care cash prices in New Orleans.

UCMD has some of the best cash prices in NOLA!

UCMD has some of the best cash prices in NOLA!

No matter what your emergency, $99 is all it takes to see one of our emergency room trained doctors or technicians. Also, because Urgent Care MD is founded by Veterans, we offer a special $79 rate for those who have served our country.

Why pay cash?

Maybe the insurance you carry has a large deductible or a really small network? Also, it’s just easier to pay a cash price and not worry about insurance junk mail later.

So, once again, Urgent Care MD’s cash prices are…

$99 or, if you are a veteran, $79

Not feeling well? Come see us. We’ll take care of you, and your pocketbook.

Spring Forward New Orleans! (Just Remember to Watch Your Step)

Spring has arrived in New Orleans, watch your step!

Spring has arrived in New Orleans, watch your step!

Finally!

This weekend, New Orleans and the rest of the country will be springing forward.

Sunday, March 8th at 2am, set your clocks ahead one full hour. This wonderful event is a sign to most that it is time to shake off the cold and find fun ways to get outside to enjoy the extra hour of daylight.

This means thoughts of walking around City Park, bike rides by Lake Ponchartrain, and Jazz Fest, fill our heads. As New Orleanians start to head outside more, the risk of injury goes up exponentially. Taking a jog along the St. Charles streetcar line can be an amazing experience, that is if you survive the cracked sidewalks, construction pits, and terrible New Orleans’ drivers! In addition to slips, falls, and accidents, getting active again after hibernating inside for a few months can bring its own set of problems.

Getting your body ready for an outdoor activity is just as important as making sure your shoes are tied tightly.

“Warming up before exercising is one of the best ways to help avoid a nasty surprise” says Urgent Care MD’s Dr. Patrick Dennis. Dr. Dennis adds, “taking a few minutes to stretch, especially after a few months of inactivity, can help to make sure your body is ready to be active.”

According to the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, a few examples of warm up activities are:

  • To warm up for a brisk walk, walk slowly for five to 10 minutes.
  • To warm up for a run, walk briskly for five to 10 minutes.
  • To warm up for swimming, swim slowly at first and then pick up the tempo as you’re able.

Hopefully, getting your blood flowing before heading outside to have fun, will help you to prevent any down time this spring.

Just in case… uur friendly, emergency room trained, medical staff are able to treat most injuries quickly and efficiently. Plus, having all the necessary medical equipment on hand (like on-site x-rays), ensures that Urgent Care MD is able to take care of you and your family.

So, spring forward New Orleans!

Just remember that you might want to stretch first 😉

Getting a flu shot is never fun, but it is definitely needed. Even though a flu shot literally only takes seconds to administer, finding the time to break away from a busy work day can be tough. That’s why Urgent Care MD offers on-site flu shots for any employees wanting to prevent that nasty flu bug.

Last fall, one of our favorite medical technicians, Catina, took the Urgent Care MD flu shot tour to the law offices of Sher Garner Cahill Richter Klein & Hilbert, L.L.C. Within just a few minutes, Catina was able to set up her flu shot station in a conference room and get everything started. Because everything was streamlined between Sher Garner’s human resources director and Urgent Care MD beforehand, the flu shot process was a smooth one.

As a matter of fact, check out this time-lapse video to get an idea of just how easy it was for the Sher Garner employees to protect themselves from that nasty flu bug!

So, whether in one of our two New Orleans locations, or in the comfort of your very own office, Urgent Care MD offers all kinds of services to make sure your business doesn’t skip a beat. Keep those employees happy, and healthy, and watch those smiles infect customers and acquaintances in no time.

In 2013, Urgent Care MD was founded by a group of emergency room doctors. Urgent Care MD provides many services including employee physicals, employer physicals, sports physicals, drug screens, flu shots, immunizations, lab tests, physical exams, vision screenings, workers compensation, and vaccinations, all on a walk in basis. By combining the skills of emergency room trained doctors and nurse practitioners, with a friendly and helpful office staff, Urgent Care MD prides itself on providing top-notch urgent care for New Orleans.

Spring is Coming, So are the Allergies

Now that the dust is settling from a super-fun, but chilly, Mardi Gras season, New Orleanians are ready for spring. In a city that always has something going, springtime means Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, and unfortunately, wicked allergies.

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), “New Orleans is one of the worst places to live for people who have allergies.” In late 2014, New Orleans ranked #24 on the AAFA’s list of  The Most Challenging Places to Live with Fall Allergies.

Why is New Orleans such a prime spot for allergy suffering? Look no further than one of the main reasons that makes the Crescent City so great, our year round mild weather. Because New Orleans see so much green most of the year, that means fun things like pollen, fill the air more often than other areas of the country. Factor in rain and lush vegetation, and New Orleans is a year round allergen factory.

What can you do?

Urgent Care MD offers up everything you might need to take care any problems that might arise with the bloom of spring. Come talk to one of our emergency room trained doctors or technicians about allergy shot and other allergy treatments. We even offer a painless alternative to the traditional shot with a cool company called Allervision.

Also keep in mind that your sniffling and sneezing may not actually be allergies. With the constant back and forth of cold vs. warm weather New Orleans battles every spring, the cold and flu is always hanging around.

Whatever your issue, there is no need to suffer. Walk in to Urgent Care MD in Lakeview or Mid-City New Orleans and see a medical a professional in a matter of minutes. Urgent Care MD will get you on the right track to feeling better, and enjoying the beautiful spring weather in New Orleans in no time!

Top 3 Reasons Why You Might Visit Urgent Care MD During Mardi Gras 2015

Mardi Gras 2015 is officially in full swing, and New Orleans is filled with happy citizens and tourists all looking for a good time.

Unfortunately, as many have experienced, our favorite season of excess can quickly turn into a nasty medical emergency. Speak with anyone who has lived through at least one Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, and they’ll have a story about themselves, or someone they know, taking a nasty spill or a coconut to the yapper.

At Urgent Care MD on Harrison in Lakeview, and on Canal in Mid-City, we want to make sure you know what to watch out for, and where to go if you need medical help in a hurry.

Here are the top 3 reasons why you might (hopefully not) visit an Urgent Care MD near you.

1. INJURIES FROM OUR FAVORITE THROWS

Yes, people throw objects like decorated high heels from Mardi Gras floats.

Yes, people throw objects like decorated high heels from Mardi Gras floats.

One second you’re shouting “throw me something mista!”, the next you’re waking up on the street with a Superdome sized bruise on your cheek and a high heel at your side.

According to the Healthcare Journal of New Orleans, “the most common type of injury directly related to Mardi Gras activities is eye injuries.” Mardi Gras float riders throw all sorts of insane objects, which is exactly what makes watching a parade so fun. Unfortunately (especially after a cocktail), you don’t always see them coming.

At Urgent Care MD, our emergency room trained doctors are ready to take on any sort of injury in a hurry. When it comes to your dome, it’s never the greatest idea to self diagnose. Web MD says, “Undiagnosed injuries that don’t receive proper care can cause long-term disability and impairment.”

Whether a bruise to the noggin, a knocked out tooth, or a poked eye, Urgent Care MD’s ER trained staff will patch you up and get you back out on the parade route as fast as possible.

2. TOO MUCH MARDI GRAS IN DAT CUP

Don't be tempted to fill that cup too much just because it's Mardi Gras.

Don’t be tempted to fill that cup too much just because it’s Mardi Gras.

Look, let’s not beat around the keg. A fair amount of adult beverages are consumed during Mardi Gras. In fact, back in 2009, a Tulane study found that there was a “$2.6 million spike in sales of alcoholic beverages” during Carnival season.

Hopefully, by the time Mardi Gras 2015 is over, your bar tab doesn’t add up to 2.6 million dollars.

Drinking alcohol in moderation is always what the doctor ordered. If, for some reason, you wake up one morning not feeling 100%, Urgent Care MD offers a few different ways to help you bounce back.

IV fluid replacement therapy is a very popular way to try and treat the daiquiri dips. Walk in to an Urgent Care MD location, get hooked up, and in 45 minutes to an hour, you’ll hopefully feel like new person. Urgent Care MD also offers B12 shots and a variety of other methods to help give your body a Mardi Gras boost.

This goes without saying, if you plan on drinking during Mardi Gras, please arrange a designated driver or other travel arrangements. Drinking and driving is the absolute dumbest way to send yourself or someone else to the hospital. Please, be safe, don’t drive, and drink in moderation.

3. TRIPS, SLIPS, FALLS, SCRAPES, AND BREAKS

New Orleans, filling all these potholes anyway we can.

New Orleans, filling all these potholes anyway we can.

Year round, the streets of New Orleans aren’t in the greatest shape (vast understatement). Factor in people, floats, beads, and cups crowding sidewalks and roads, New Orleans during Mardi Gras is one big slip n slide. Also, Carnival season is filled with crazy masks, hats, and costumes. Combine the cracked streets, poor lighting, and something covering your eyeballs, and you’re bound to trip over a busted curb.

Again, our expert doctors and staff are emergency room technicians. Should something unfortunate happen during your favorite parade, hitch a ride on the back of a float to an Urgent Care MD location near you.

Associated Press photo from Dr. Dennis’s Green Beret days.

Prior to his career in medicine, Dr. Patrick Dennis was an enlisted member of the U.S. Army Special Operations Forces “Green Berets”. This photo was taken by an Associated Press journalist and run in newspapers across the country during the 80’s. According to Dr. Dennis, this service dog named Dante, “was an amazing dog”.

His military service and love for dogs is why Dr. Dennis and Urgent Care MD are huge supporters of many different veterans associations.

This Veterans Day, please think to donate to one of the following veteran’s organizations, or one of your choice.

Hat Day for Kay at UCMD

Kay is fighting leukemia. Now that she's lost her hair, she likes to wear cool hats. To support her, we will too!

Kay is fighting leukemia. Now that she’s lost her hair, she likes to wear cool hats. To support her, we will too!

UCMD’s Catina has a very special reason for asking our staff to wear hats on Friday, October 24th, 2014. Catina’s niece Kay has leukemia. Due to chemotherapy and the recent lost of her hair, Kay now loves to wear hats.

Kay’s school, the John Dibert Community School in New Orleans, has done a great job raising money to help Kay and her family fight this terrible disease. Tomorrow, her school is hosting “Hat Day for Kay”.

The idea is to wear a hat in honor of Kay’s fight against childhood leukemia and to make a donation to her Go Fund Me account.

Because we love our staff, we decided to get in on Hat Day to help support Kay and her aunt Catina.

So tomorrow, make it hat day for Kay!

And don’t forget to make a donation to help Kay’s family by clicking here.

Aunt Catina is super proud of Kay and her brave fight against this terrible disease.
