Healthy Employees = Happy Employees

The secret to a healthy business is really no secret at all. If the people who work for you are happy, and healthy, those positive vibes become contagious around the office.

Contagious in a good sense, of course 😉

At Urgent Care MD, we offer a wide array of medical services for employers in New Orleans. The list includes;

  • Drug Screens,
  • Immunizations,
  • Laboratory Tests,
  • Physical Exams,
  • Pulmonary Functions Test,
  • Respirator Fit Testing,
  • Vision Screening,
  • Workers Compensation,
  • X-Ray Services
  • Many more, just ask us!

Not only do we offer these services at both our Lakeview and Mid-City Urgent Care MD offices in New Orleans, we also bring the services to you!

Getting a flu shot is never fun, but it is definitely needed. Even though a flu shot literally only takes seconds to administer, finding the time to break away from a busy work day can be tough. That’s why Urgent Care MD offers on-site flu shots for any employees wanting to prevent that nasty flu bug.

Last fall, one of our favorite medical technicians, Catina, took the Urgent Care MD flu shot tour to the law offices of Sher Garner Cahill Richter Klein & Hilbert, L.L.C. Within just a few minutes, Catina was able to set up her flu shot station in a conference room and get everything started. Because everything was streamlined between Sher Garner’s human resources director and Urgent Care MD beforehand, the flu shot process was a smooth one.

As a matter of fact, check out this time-lapse video to get an idea of just how easy it was for the Sher Garner employees to protect themselves from that nasty flu bug!

So, whether in one of our two New Orleans locations, or in the comfort of your very own office, Urgent Care MD offers all kinds of services to make sure your business doesn’t skip a beat. Keep those employees happy, and healthy, and watch those smiles infect customers and acquaintances in no time.

In 2013, Urgent Care MD was founded by a group of emergency room doctors. Spring is Coming, So are the Allergies

Now that the dust is settling from a super-fun, but chilly, Mardi Gras season, New Orleanians are ready for spring. In a city that always has something going, springtime means Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, and unfortunately, wicked allergies.

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), “New Orleans is one of the worst places to live for people who have allergies.” In late 2014, New Orleans ranked #24 on the AAFA’s list of  The Most Challenging Places to Live with Fall Allergies.

Why is New Orleans such a prime spot for allergy suffering? Look no further than one of the main reasons that makes the Crescent City so great, our year round mild weather. Because New Orleans see so much green most of the year, that means fun things like pollen, fill the air more often than other areas of the country. Factor in rain and lush vegetation, and New Orleans is a year round allergen factory.

What can you do?

Urgent Care MD offers up everything you might need to take care any problems that might arise with the bloom of spring. Come talk to one of our emergency room trained doctors or technicians about allergy shot and other allergy treatments. We even offer a painless alternative to the traditional shot with a cool company called Allervision.

Also keep in mind that your sniffling and sneezing may not actually be allergies. With the constant back and forth of cold vs. warm weather New Orleans battles every spring, the cold and flu is always hanging around.

Whatever your issue, there is no need to suffer. Walk in to Urgent Care MD in Lakeview or Mid-City New Orleans and see a medical a professional in a matter of minutes. Urgent Care MD will get you on the right track to feeling better, and enjoying the beautiful spring weather in New Orleans in no time!

Top 3 Reasons Why You Might Visit Urgent Care MD During Mardi Gras 2015

Mardi Gras 2015 is officially in full swing, and New Orleans is filled with happy citizens and tourists all looking for a good time.

Unfortunately, as many have experienced, our favorite season of excess can quickly turn into a nasty medical emergency. Speak with anyone who has lived through at least one Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, and they’ll have a story about themselves, or someone they know, taking a nasty spill or a coconut to the yapper.

At Urgent Care MD on Harrison in Lakeview, and on Canal in Mid-City, we want to make sure you know what to watch out for, and where to go if you need medical help in a hurry.

Here are the top 3 reasons why you might (hopefully not) visit an Urgent Care MD near you.

1. INJURIES FROM OUR FAVORITE THROWS

Yes, people throw objects like decorated high heels from Mardi Gras floats.

Yes, people throw objects like decorated high heels from Mardi Gras floats.

One second you’re shouting “throw me something mista!”, the next you’re waking up on the street with a Superdome sized bruise on your cheek and a high heel at your side.

According to the Healthcare Journal of New Orleans, “the most common type of injury directly related to Mardi Gras activities is eye injuries.” Mardi Gras float riders throw all sorts of insane objects, which is exactly what makes watching a parade so fun. Unfortunately (especially after a cocktail), you don’t always see them coming.

At Urgent Care MD, our emergency room trained doctors are ready to take on any sort of injury in a hurry. When it comes to your dome, it’s never the greatest idea to self diagnose. Web MD says, “Undiagnosed injuries that don’t receive proper care can cause long-term disability and impairment.”

Whether a bruise to the noggin, a knocked out tooth, or a poked eye, Urgent Care MD’s ER trained staff will patch you up and get you back out on the parade route as fast as possible.

2. TOO MUCH MARDI GRAS IN DAT CUP

Don't be tempted to fill that cup too much just because it's Mardi Gras.

Don’t be tempted to fill that cup too much just because it’s Mardi Gras.

Look, let’s not beat around the keg. A fair amount of adult beverages are consumed during Mardi Gras. In fact, back in 2009, a Tulane study found that there was a “$2.6 million spike in sales of alcoholic beverages” during Carnival season.

Hopefully, by the time Mardi Gras 2015 is over, your bar tab doesn’t add up to 2.6 million dollars.

Drinking alcohol in moderation is always what the doctor ordered. If, for some reason, you wake up one morning not feeling 100%, Urgent Care MD offers a few different ways to help you bounce back.

IV fluid replacement therapy is a very popular way to try and treat the daiquiri dips. Walk in to an Urgent Care MD location, get hooked up, and in 45 minutes to an hour, you’ll hopefully feel like new person. Urgent Care MD also offers B12 shots and a variety of other methods to help give your body a Mardi Gras boost.

This goes without saying, if you plan on drinking during Mardi Gras, please arrange a designated driver or other travel arrangements. Drinking and driving is the absolute dumbest way to send yourself or someone else to the hospital. Please, be safe, don’t drive, and drink in moderation.

3. TRIPS, SLIPS, FALLS, SCRAPES, AND BREAKS

New Orleans, filling all these potholes anyway we can.

New Orleans, filling all these potholes anyway we can.

Year round, the streets of New Orleans aren’t in the greatest shape (vast understatement). Factor in people, floats, beads, and cups crowding sidewalks and roads, New Orleans during Mardi Gras is one big slip n slide. Also, Carnival season is filled with crazy masks, hats, and costumes. Combine the cracked streets, poor lighting, and something covering your eyeballs, and you’re bound to trip over a busted curb.

Again, our expert doctors and staff are emergency room technicians. Should something unfortunate happen during your favorite parade, hitch a ride on the back of a float to an Urgent Care MD location near you.

Remember, drink in moderation, watch where you’re going, and keep your head on a swivel! Be safe and have a happy Mardi Gras 2015!
